About postabortioncare.org

Since 1994, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has supported postabortion care programs in over 30 countries. In the fall of 2001, a global evaluation was conducted of its postabortion care programs followed by the development of a five-year strategy. The Postabortion Care (PAC) model was revised as a result of this evaluation, and a results framework with indicators developed. The Postabortion Care Global Resources Guide developed as a part of this strategy as well, and postabortioncare.org created as an online repository for the Guide, including the 2010 USAID Postabortion Care Curriculum for health providers.

In 2024, postabortioncare.org was updated with support from MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL). MCGL is part of USAID’s suite of MOMENTUM awards and engages in global initiatives and provides technical and capacity development assistance (TCDA) to country partners to apply evidence and best practices to accelerate progress toward sustainable improvements in the health of women, children, and families. In the same year, MCGL’s sister project, MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics (MSSFPO) also released an updated USAID Postabortion Care Curriculum (2024), which is now housed on the site.

With this latest refresh, postabortioncare.org serves as a trusted source for evidence-based PAC implementation resources, including the 2024 USAID PAC Curriculum for healthcare providers. It also serves as a repository for open-access, peer-reviewed literature on PAC, as well as highlights and meeting summaries from PAC Connection, an interagency working group of USAID and its implementing partners with activities or interest in PAC.

The materials housed on postabortioncare.org are compiled by a consortium of organizations led by USAID. This Training Resource Package is made possible by the generous support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
